Sensory Room - Heathside Centre Coxheath


Maidstone Lions recently attended the official opening by the Mayor Maidstone on 22 September 2017 of a new sensory room at Heathside Centre Coxheath, following Jo Trehanrne Head of Marketing at Kent Community Health NHS Trust attending one of the club's meetings, the club resolved to fundraise the necessary funds to celebrate Lions Clubs International Centennial year and are pleased to have provided £20,000 of equipment for the room

The sensory room is for children with severe and complex needs and will be used by Children’s Therapies team at the Heathside Clinic to provide the following:

·       Physiotherapy

·       Occupational Therapy

·       Speech and Language Therapy

·       And Key working to disabled children and their families


Other services will also be able to use the room, these include:

·       Children’s Speech and Language Therapy

·       Audiology

·       Community Pediatricians,

·       Children’s mental health services


These teams  work with children from birth to 19 who have a wide variety  conditions including cerebral palsy, downs syndrome, spina bifida, autism, feeding difficulties and a wide range of genetic conditions.  Their abilities range widely from severe and complex needs with very limited movement and communication to more able children with one or two areas of difficulty.
